Android can read selected text aloud, but the sound is a reading aid rather than a replacement for the displayed wording. Select a complete sentence, listen, then return to any names, negative words or reference codes whose exact spelling matters.
Choose the available reading control
For Select to Speak, open Settings, Accessibility, then Select to Speak and enable its shortcut. Activate that shortcut and choose readable items. A supported text-selection menu may also offer Read aloud without enabling Select to Speak. Some steps require Android 11 or later, and not every mobile browser is supported. See Google's Select to Speak instructions.
These are alternative interfaces, not two required stages. If the selected-text menu already provides Read aloud, do not assume a missing shortcut is an error. Conversely, a shortcut does not guarantee that every item in the current browser can be selected.
Check a complete sentence and its code
Consider this hypothetical practice notice: “Do not continue in Room ABO0.” The code contains A, B, the letter O and the digit zero. Select the sentence from “Do” through its final punctuation, rather than only “continue in Room”. Listen while keeping the original visible.
Then make two separate checks. First, is the word “not” included in the selected text? Second, does the final code character look like a zero rather than a letter O? Do not infer the spelling just from pronunciation. A useful practice record is: “Full sentence selected; negative word present; final character visually checked as zero.” This is an invented reading exercise, not an instruction for any actual room.
If nothing is read, describe what happened
Distinguish “no selection appeared”, “the control was unavailable” and “only part of the selection was read”. Those observations point to different things to check. None means the original text does not exist. Use the official help for compatibility rather than installing an unfamiliar service.
